Ecstasy

ecstasy

What is Ecstasy? What are the street drug names for it?

XTC, E.X., Adam, E., MDMA, Hug Drug, Rolling, Clarity, Lover's Speed, Hug, Beans, Love Drug, 007, Superman, Tweetie Bird, and some say it's as easy to buy as soda.

It is a synthetic, psychoactive (mind-altering) drug with amphetamine-like and hallucinogenic properties. It is classified as a stimulant.

Ecstasy is most often available in tablet,or pill form and is usually taken by mouth.

It is also available as a powder and is sometimes snorted and occasionally smoked, but rarely injected. Its effects last about four to six hours.

Produces:
profoundly positive feelings
feelings of peacefulness
acceptance and empathy
feelings of closeness with others and a desire to touch others
self-confidence
elimination of anxiety
extreme relaxation.

E. is also said to suppress the need to eat, drink, or sleep, enabling users to endure two- to three-day parties. Consequently, using it can result in severe dehydration or exhaustion. Most E.X. users drink a lot of bottled water to counteract this danger, but in reality they are flushing their system of potassium and essential electrolytes their bodies need. This can lead to muscle breakdown and kidney, liver and cardiovascular failure. Cardiovascular failure has been reported in some of the Ecstasy-related fatalities.

Risks with E. (similar to amphetamines and cocaine)
They are:

Psychological difficulties:
confusion
depression
sleep problems
drug craving
severe anxiety
paranoia - during and sometimes weeks after taking it (even psychotic episodes have been reported)

Physical symptoms such as:
muscle tension
seizures
involuntary teeth clenching
nausea
blurred vision
rapid eye movement
faintness
heart attack
kidney dialysis
dependence on a ventilator
coma
death
chills or sweating
Increases in heart rate and blood pressure, a special risk for people with circulatory or heart disease.
